CLOSEST FINISH EVER: Buis claims Dutch double by 0.001s ahead of Salvador in epic WorldSSP300 Race 2
Double Champion Jeffrey Buis claimed his second win of the weekend by the barest of margins ahead of Spanish star David Salvador
Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) and David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) made history in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship as they crossed the line separated by just 0.001s after a 12-lap Race 2 duel at the TT Circuit Assen. 10 riders were fighting for victory across the line as Buis completed a home double and took the Championship lead following the Pirelli Dutch Round.
HISTORY MAKERS: Buis’ double on home soil by just 0.001s
The fight for victory went down to the final chicane with 10 riders separated by a second across the line, before penalties for track limits violations were applied. Buis led heading into the final chicane and held it through the three-turn complex, before just fending off Salvador by 0.001s at the line, breaking the record for closest ever finish, while they had a relatively big gap to P3. Daniel Mogeda (Pons Motosport Italika Racing) was classified in third after Benat Fernandez (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove) and Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) were given two place penalties for course cutting on the final lap.
IN THE TOP TEN: less than a second covering them
Fernandez and Thompson were therefore classified in fourth and fifth respectively, with Fernandez serving a double Long Lap Penalty following a penalty he received from Race 1, ahead of Brazilian star Humberto Maier (Yamaha AD78 FIMLA by MS Racing) in sixth as the #12 concluded a strong weekend in the Netherlands. Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) battled his way up to claim seventh place ahead of Antonio Torres (Team ProDina XCI) and Matteo Vannucci (PATA AG Motorsport Italia WorldSSP300) in ninth, while Julio Garcia (Prodina Kawasaki Racing Sport) completed the top ten. However, after the race, Antonio Torres (Team ProDina XCI) was adjudged to have exceeded track limits, demoting him to P9 and promoting Vannucci to eighth.
SECURING POINTS: a few seconds from the lead group
Behind that lead group of 10, Kevin Sabatucci (Accolade Funds Smrz Racing BGR) claimed 11th place on the track, however, was classified in tenth after Garcia was penalised for a last-lap track limits infringement, some six seconds away from the first group. Kevin Fontainha (Yamaha AD78 FIMLA by MS Racing) was 12th ahead of Juan Risueno (MS Racing), Emiliano Ercolani (Kawasaki GP Project) and Pepe Osuna (ZAPPAS-DEZA-BOX 77 Racing Team) secured points in Race 2.
TO NOTE FROM RACE 2: several retirements
Tomas Alonso (Pons Motorsport Italika Racing) crashed out of the race at Turn 10 on Lap 3, dropping from the points-paying positions to the back of the field and out of contention, with the Portuguese eider taken to the medical centre for a check-up. Alessandro di Persio (ARCO Sash MotoR University Team) crashed at Turn 7 on Lap 5, with the debutant retiring from the race. Mirko Gennai (MTM Kawasaki) recorded his third retirement of 2025 after a crash at Turn 5 on Lap 7, seemingly caught up in a chain reaction after rookie Felix Mulya (ProGP NitiRacing) had a huge moment on the exit of the hairpin, with the #26 taken to the medical centre for a check-up. Giacomo Zannini (Kawasaki GP Project) retired from the race after bringing his bike into the pit lane. On Lap 10, Filip Novotny (Accolade Funds Smrz Racing BGR) and Roberto Fernandez (Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM) crashed at Turn 8.
